I have spent most of my career advising companies on mergers and acquisitions and raising growth capital. As a trusted advisor to senior executives and business owners, my focus was always on building long-term relationships and providing innovative and creative solutions to complex strategic and financial issues.
I had the privilege of becoming an entrepreneur myself through the acquisition of ComTech in early 2015 and since then, I have learned so much about compressed natural gas (CNG) fuelling infrastructure and the transportation sector in Canada. Over the last few years, ComTech has grown from four employees to over 35 employees and has designed and installed some of the largest CNG stations across Canada, including Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta. All of our successes to date could not have been accomplished without our industry partners and dedicated employees.
I founded Envoy Energy in 2015 to raise awareness and educate fleets on CNG as a transportation fuel. During this time, I had many conversations with different types of fleets – third-party carriers, shippers, waste haulers and municipal transit. After numerous discussions with owners, senior executives, fleet managers, truck drivers and mechanics, it was clear to me that everyone had different needs, objectives and motivations. The challenge was going to be how to come up with a long-term, cost effective and sustainable CNG solution that will be accepted by all parties involved. It does not make things easier when the way CNG infrastructure is built today is complex, expensive and inflexible. What I have come to realize is that the only way for CNG fuel to have long-term success in gradually offsetting diesel dependency is to make it simple, cheaper and flexible.
Starting in 2018, Envoy will be challenging the status quo in the industry by delivering CNG fuel to transportation fleets via tube trailers, including fast-filling trucks, in a cost-effective and flexible way without sacrificing performance. We were not able to find an “off the shelf” solution so we had to figure it out ourselves. We want to make bold and innovative moves to reshape the CNG fuel industry and come up with a simple answer that makes economic sense.
Looking forward to helping fleets reduce their operating costs, increase profitability and be more competitive.
